Other new aircraft lining the streets were as varied as the Waco YMF-5 biplanes and a large contingent of Light Sport airplanes. Vans Aircraft announced its intention to offer to sell fully- assembled Special Light Sport RV-12 two-seaters, after 40 years of supplying thousands of RV experimental amateur built kits for homebuilding. The sporty little RV-12 is priced at $105,000 with standard equipment, or $115,000 with all options, ready-to-fly. The 12 airplanes in the initial SLSA run will be built at Synergy Air’s builder training center in Eugene, Oregon. The showiest aircraft in the static display was probably John Stahr’s RV-8 homebuilt, with a dazzling paint job accented by “angel” figures and flight motifs. Photos don’t do it justice. German sport aircraft builder Flight Design was showing a mockup of its proposed CT4 composite four-seater, to be powered by a Continental IO-360 certified to use “alternate fuels”, in anticipation of future no-lead avgas.AOPA’s “Tougher Than A Tornado” 2012 sweepstakes give- away plane was in the static display, but had already been awarded to Richard Zahn of Florida. Next year’s project airplane to be completely refurbished and given away had already been purchased; it’s a 1963 Beech Debonair B33 with only 2,000 hours total-time.FAA Administrator Michael Huerta appeared at the second-day!
